RM78,750 For A Golf Tourney Champ - Sivachandran

Click here to read further regarding the above picture.

WHY GILOCATUR WANTS TO SHARE THE ABOVE PICTURE IN THIS BLOG? ACTUALLY, GILOCATUR WONDERS WHEN A CHESS TOURNEY IN MALAYSIA WILL HAVE ABOUT THE SAME MONEY PRIZE FOR THE CHAMPION LIKE IN GOLF.

A LOCAL CHESS TOURNEY NORMALLY WILL NOT EXCEED RM 1,000 MONEY PRIZE FOR THE CHAMPION. EVEN FOR THE COMING MALAYSIAN OPEN OR DATMO, THE MONEY PRIZE FOR THE CHAMPION IS ONLY USD 4,000, WHICH IS LESS THAN RM 15,000.

DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH THE CHAMPION FOR UNDER 12 OR UNDER 18 CATEGORY WILL GET IN A LOCAL CHESS TOURNEY? IT IS JUST A MERE OF RM 100 AND RM 150 RESPECTIVELY. GILOCATUR BELIEVES IF THE MONEY PRIZE IS MUCH MUCH MORE, THE CHESS TOURNAMENT WILL BE MORE COMPETITIVE. WHEN IT IS MORE COMPETITIVE, THE QUALITY OF PLAYERS WILL IMPROVE. THE YOUNG CHESS PLAYERS WILL LEARN AND PRACTICE MUCH HARDER. DOMINO EFFECT, DON'T YOU THINK?

THE BIG QUESTION IS HOW TO ATTRACT BIG SPONSORS FOR CHESS? HOW TO POPULARIZE CHESS? HOW TO MAKE CHESS CLASSY AND REPUTABLE LIKE GOLF?

  2. Hi GiloCatur....Im SVGuna not siva...:). Target 2014? coz...Jag will be 12 then.....my second son will be 6.

We must organize many age group tournaments. Now only focus on under 12 only....but in a sudden, National U8,U10 championship (NAG)appear....Funny right! When all the U8 and U10 category get trashed by the U12 players...they may demotivated to continue playing chess. only a handfull players continue their journey. So, how to get good players if only a handfull players continue to play chess? Forever we cant get a GM!!! The current young best hope GMship for Malaysia is Yeoh Li Tian. So....who is next 1? other countries they talking of few players to achieve GM levels but in Malaysia we are target 1 only....Where is our direction?

I hope to get experience organizers to support U8,U10 players in every tournaments. At the young age, childrens like medals....so, whats the big deal giving 3 medals for each category eventhough they are competing in the open events.
