NAG 2010 - Day 2 Early Edition

Going to the second day of the tournament today, below are GiLoCatur's review after Round 3:

Under 8

The top two seeds - Wong Yinn Long and Jagathees Guna Balan of Johor, are leading this age group section. Both have won against all their first three rounds respective opponents. Yinn Long played white against Prashant Ramasamy in the first round. Then playing white, he defeated Fahim Saleh in the second round followed by winning over the 4th seed Tan Min Wei. While Jagathees won against Muhd Faqih (1st round), Yeoh Ern (2nd round) and Lim Zee Ern (3rd round).

In the Girls section, the 2nd seed Nur Islamurni Yahaya scored the perfect 3/3 points. She won against her opponents - Chua Jia-Tien, Goh Jie Yi and Tan Jia Xuan. Trailing half point are Zainoor Ikmal Maisarah Mohd Noor of Selangor and Khaw Ker Bhean.

Under 10

Also in this age group, the top two seeds - Teh De Juan of Penang and Amier Hamzah Mohd Zuhri of Kuala Lumpur, are leading the group with the perfect score. Both represented Malaysia in the last World Youth Chess Championship in Turkey. Who were their opponents in the first three rounds in Day 1? Hafiz Maznan, Emir Rusyaidi Ahmad Nazari, and Danish Hamzah Al-Hadi for De Juan while Lee Zhi Yan, Chuah Hai Min and Ng Jen Shen for Amier Hamzah. GiLoCatur believes their match up in the first round in Day 2 will be the decider who will win their age group. But anything can happen, an upset against any of them will change the result. So, to other players in U8 Boys, take the challenge to win against the two.

Nithyalakshmi of Seremban, the 2nd seed, is the only player with the perfect 3/3 point score for the Girls section in this age group. The top seed, Puteri Rifqah Fahada Azhar, the golden medallist in 2009 MSSM, is trailing half point along with the 4th seed Maisarah Noor Akbar. Three other players with 2/3 points are tough challengers. They are Teh De Zen, Puteri Munajjah Az-Zahraa and Lee Wen Lynn. Will they continue to be the top five winners? Or others may also climb up the ladder to be among the winners. Let's wait and see for four more rounds. (Note: For all the girls age group there are only seven rounds; not eight rounds as per boys age groups.)
